Community
Unit School District # 7, also known as Unit Seven Schools, is a district that services preschool
through twelfth grade. The school district covers 173 square
miles and fulfills the educational needs for the communities of Tolono,
Philo,
Sidney, Sadorus, and Pesotum. In August of 2002 we opened the
doors to three new
schools, Unity East Elementary with a student enrollment of
approximately
300, housing students from Sidney and Philo , Unity West
Elementary with a
student enrollment of approximately 400, housing students from
Pesotum,
Sadorus, and Tolono , and Unity Junior High with a student enrollment
of
approximately 200. Along with our existing High School, we now
have four
schools instead of seven. Unit Seven Schools provide a
comprehensive curriculum for grades K-12. Pre-school and Early
Childhood programs are available to further the developmental needs of
three, four, and five year old children. A full day program is
available to the five-year-old entering kindergarten.
The
traditional subjects are available, along with computer literacy, art,
music, and physical education. In addition, a media center is housed in
each building. Special services for Gifted, Speech,
Title I reading, and students with specific learning needs are
offered. Band is available for all fifth and sixth grade students.
Both band and chorus are offered to the junior high and high school
students.
The
district is located in a rural agricultural setting 10 miles south of
Champaign-Urbana, minutes from both Parkland College and the University
of Illinois. The park districts include facilities with ballparks,
tennis courts, etc. Many fraternal, professional, and service
organizations can be found in the surrounding communities. Thank
you for visiting our website, we hope you will enjoy
your stay and will return often.
