It all began in 1998 with a group of Unit 7 community members who shared a
dream.  That dream was to upgrade the school facilities in all five communities.  This group of
dedicated individuals met with the school board and decided to explore all
the different possibilities of improving the school buildings of Unit 7.
This citizen group adopted the name Room for Unity...Uniting Neighbors In
Teaching Youth.

After much investigation and study, Room for Unity recommended to the Board
of Education the idea of building three new schools and placing a referendum on the ballot for a
property tax increase.  Room for Unity met weekly to disseminate information for the proposed new
schools.  Thanks to the positive response of the voters of Unit 7 three new
schools were built and soon opened.

With their work not yet finished, Room for Unity asked the Board of
Education if there was anything else they could do to help improve
educational opportunities for Unit 7 students.  The school board suggested
creating an education foundation.  And so it was born.  Room for Unity
Education Foundation began seeking funding to provide financial support for
programs and activities within the classrooms of Unit 7.  This system of
support has provided over $44,000 for the enrichment of school programs that
provide unique and student centered learning opportunities.

The RFUEF would like to thank the following charter members for their vision
and dedication to improving and enriching students' learning:
Terry Black, Tom Cain, Jeff Fisher, Brad Hatfield, D Hoffman, Cheryl Howell, Rick Knight,
Gary Kuchenbrod, Dr. Martin Koeck, Becky Moore, Lee Reifsteck, JoAnn Staire,
Jerry Warnes, Pam Woodworth,  Susan Allison, Karen Mannon, Richard Jobe,
Jim Henry and Jim Robinson.

With a history rich in community involvement, Room for Unity continues
seeking funding for those extras that mean excellence within our classrooms.  We look forward to
continuing this journey with continued community support.
