Special Education Programs

Unit Seven offers district wide comprehensive services for students with special needs. Within our special education programs we provide services through our special education teachers, program aides, nurses, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, orientation and mobility therapists, hearing itinerant teachers, audiologists, vision itinerant teachers, social workers, and psychologist per each individual student’s needs. To the maximum extent appropriate, each student is educated within the general education classroom setting.  Placements outside of the district may be utilized for students because of the nature or severity of the disability.

Life Skills Program

The Life Skills program provides instruction in the four domains of leisure, domestic, vocational, and community. A functional curriculum is provided for students with multiple or severe/profound disabilities where therapy and instruction are integrated into daily activities in multiple settings.

BASICS (Behavior, Attitude, Social Integration, and Character Skills) Program

The BASICS program provides academic and behavioral support for students with social, emotional and behavioral disabilities. Most of the students have individual behavior plans and all have behavior goals and objectives.

Cross Categorical Program

The K-12 Cross Categorical Program provides special education for students whose primary disability is a learning disability or who have different disabilities. Students receive his/her basic educational experiences through instruction in the general education classes.  These experiences are supplemented through additional or specialized instruction from the teacher, consultation with special education providers, provision of special materials and accommodations, modification in the instructional services, content, or methodology, or specifically designed instruction through a small group setting.
