Type out the actual department name, full address, or
anything you want abbreviated and highlight it. |

Click on Tools
and AutoCorrect. |

| 3. |
The AutoCorrect
window will appear. The Replace
box is empty, but the With box
has the full
name: "Management Information Systems." That's because it is highlighted. |
| 4. |
In the Replace
box, you type "mis."
Remember that you want to keep what you type in the Replace box
simple; in other words, type everything in lower case letters. Click
the Add button. Then click the OK button to close the window |

Try it out. Go back to your document, type
what you placed in the Replace box,
and hit the Space bar. |
You can do this with any amount of text you want. You can
use this with salutations, an entire paragraph of text, and,
theoretically, even a whole document if needed. The AutoCorrect tool is
also a spell checker. If you type "teh" and hit the space bar, it will
turn into "the." It has a list of frequently misspelled words
that it corrects as you're typing. Look at what is already in the
list and try these words out. |

You see our address is in the With box.
Our shortcut is "os." We'll add it, close out the
window, and we have the AutoCorrect for our address. |

Hint: Do not use words frequently used
from the dictionary in the Replace
box. |
For example, for a company name
such as "Women's Entertainment," you would not want to use "we" as the
shortcut for this company because the word "we" is frequently used.
Every time you would type "we" and hit the SPACE bar,
the word we will be
replaced with "Women's Entertainment."
Therefore, avoid frequently used words as your
abbreviations.
