File Stamp

Purpose:
Print out the file path or location of your file.  For example, you have found a document in one of your file cabinets but cannot remember where you saved the document on your computer. If you file stamp it, the location of the file will be printed out so you can go directly to it.

1.   We must create a macro. All the buttons on the toolbars have macros, or functions associated with them, so when you click on one, it carries out a certain function. For this example, we are using the "Select Vertical" file.

2.   Click on Tools, then Macro, and then Record New Macro.

3.   Give the Macro a name. For this example, it is named Filestamp. Click the Toolbars icon.

4.   We are in record mode for the macro. It's waiting for the steps to entered.

5.   Click on Insert and then Field. Complete the window just as shown. In the Categories window, choose Document Information, in the Field names window, choose FileName, and then type \p in the field below. Click OK.

6.   Click the Stop Recording button.

7.   Click on Tools and then Customize.

8.   In the Categories window, scroll down and click on Macros.

9.   Click on Normal.NewMarcros.Filestamp, and drag it up to the top to any toolbar. Follow the red arrows. When you see the macro moved to the toolbar like it is in the screen below, you've completed the task correctly.

10.   RIGHT click on the newly placed macro on the toolbar and then click on Change Button Image. A window of pictures will appear. For this example, we have chosen the picture with the two footprints.

11.   The picture has been added to the macro icon on the toolbar.

12.   RIGHT click on the macro icon on the toolbar again, and then click on Default Style. Close the Customize Window.

13.   The Filestamp macro is now just a picture of two footprints. Click on it and your file path will be displayed and will be printed.
