Merging Cells in Tables

Purpose:
To make two or more cells of a table into one.  For example, you have a table with five rows and seven columns. You want to insert a row at the top to have a row with the title of the table.

1.   You have your table set up to insert a row at the top.

2.   Click in the first row with the days of the week. Click on Table, then Insert, and then Rows Above.

3.   Now you have a new row at the top. It should already be highlighted. If not, click at the beginning of the row and it will be highlighted.

4.   You need to have the table toolbar available. Click on View, then Toolbars, and then Tables and Borders.

5.   The Tables and Borders toolbar is displayed. Click on Merge cells icon on the toolbar.

6.   Now the top row is the first column.

7.   Type the title of the table.
