Purpose:

To type an outline that will be
correctly spaced and lettered. For example, your English teacher
requires a typed outline prior to your writing your research paper.

From
the View menu, choose Outline. Then the Outlining toolbar will appear.

Now
we need to format the outline. First, make sure your cusor is at
the top of the coument. From the Format
menu, choose Style. From
the Style dialog box, click Modify.

From
the Modify Style dialog
box, check Automatically update,
and from the Format pull-down
menu,
choose Numbering.

At
the Bullets and Numbering
dialog box, click on the Outline
tab. Choose the Roman numeral style and
click OK.

This
takes you back to the Modify Style
dialog box where you can make other
changes, for example, the font.

For
the English paper, the instructions state to use Times New Roman, size
12, and no bolding. These changes have been made below.
Then click OK and then Apply.

Type
the text you want to use as your heading and then press Enter. A
new paragraph appears at the same level.
However, this topic is to be one level down, so click the Demote button on the outlining
toolbar and press Enter.
To move back to the higher level, click the Promote button.
