East Update

2nd Quarter, 20-21 School Year

At registration in August, families made a decision for in-person or remote learning for the 1st semester. Families who chose remote learning may choose to have their child attend in-person for second semester, but must make this choice by December 1. A survey will be sent to families of remote students in November to share their choice.

In the same way, families with a child attending in-person may choose to switch to remote learning (provided through Educere).  Families of in-person students should contact the school office to indicate a choice to switch placement.

  • Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 22, from 3:00-9:30pm.  Conferences will be held virtually, either online or by phone. Sign-up links will be emailed on October 8 and are posted on the East website.

  • Wednesday, October 21 is Unity Day - a day dedicated to uniting for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.  Come together in one giant orange message of hope for our schools, our communities, our nation, and our world.  Be a part of this expression of solidarity across Unit Seven by wearing orange and showing kindness to all those around you.

  • 1st Quarter report cards will be sent home on Thursday, October 22. Due to our shortened school day, Unit 7 elementaries are focusing our instruction on the Illinois priority standards for English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. Other subjects are not being graded at this time and report cards will reflect only ELA and math grades.

  • A few notes about Halloween: Our school will not have students wear costumes at school this year. Halloween-themed face coverings are allowed, but must be an effective COVID-mask and be school appropriate (eg. not scary, gruesome, or violent). Classrooms may have Halloween or seasonal activities, but will not have visitors for parties or activities.

  • All students have a yellow COVID-19 Self-Certification Card. Parents/guardians must initial the yellow card every morning before sending or bringing their child to school or putting them onto a bus, certifying that their child does NOT have a fever and is symptom free.

  • Our character education focus throughout the year is framed as “Rockets SOAR.” Each quarter students are learning about being Safe, Organized, Ambitious, and Respectful.

  • Do you have the Unity Rockets app? Our school app is available for download in the Apple and Google Play stores under the name “Unit Seven Schools.” This is often used to share announcements and alerts specific to Unity East.

In Partnership,

Mr. Carver, Principal
